The Octopus Project
A projection mapped experiment in organic preservation.
The original intention of this project was to encase a (dead) octopus in resin, in order to observe it's change over time within a closed environment. However, due to the off-gassing of the octopus, the pressure inside the closed chamber could not be contained, and the octopus had to be removed. Instead, the resulting negative mold of the octopus was filled with ink (and more resin). A timelapsed animation of the octopus being filled with ink is used as content for a video installation, whereby a video projector is mapped to the form of the octopus, with the animation on loop.
